Recover a deleted partition

If you have deleted a partition in error you may recover the data from that deleted partition.

You may also scan an existing partition to see if there may be a deleted partition that exists within it.

To recover a deleted partition:

  1. Right-click an Unallocated area or a logical drive and select Scan for Deleted Partitions in the context menu. The Disk Scan dialog box appears.
  2. In Disk Scan Area, the area that you are about to scan is highlighted.
  3. In Select Scan Type, do the following:
    • For fast
    • For normal
    • For advanced
  4. In Search for Partitions File System Patterns, select the check box next to the file system patterns to search for. If you choose more patterns, you get a more thorough search and the search lasts a longer time.
  5. Click Scan. A progress bar appears.
    • To view details of the scan process, click Details>>.
    • To stop the scan process at any time, click Stop>>.
  6. After the scan is complete, find detected deleted partitions in the Data Storage Devices and Partitions list. Each partition displays a status that shows the probability of success in restoring the partition and its contents. The status may display one of the following:
    • (Excellent)
    • (Good)
    • (Poor)
  7. To restore a deleted partition, right-click it and choose Restore Partition from the context menu. The Restore Partition dialog box appears.
  8. In Recovered Partition Options, do the following:
    • To assign a drive letter to the recovered partition, choose a letter from the Assign the following drive letter drop-down list.
    • To indicate that this is an active partition, select the Set partition active check box.
    • To back up partition information to an MBR file, select the Backup Partition Information check box and browse to the folder where you want to save the file.
    • To recover this partition as an extended partition, select the Create Extended Partition check box and do the following:
    • Indicate the starting sector and the total number of sectors to use.
    • To use all space, select the Use All Unallocated Space check box.
    • To verify and correct the partition boot sector automatically, click Auto.
    • To view a template of the partition boot sector and manually change any parameter, click Manual. With this option, you may also copy the primary boot sector to its copy location and copy the copy of the primary boot sector to the primary location if necessary.
  9. Click Restore. A progress bar appears.
  10. After the process is complete, a Completed dialog box appears. Click OK.The partition is restored.

Note: If a deleted partition cannot be undeleted, you may still be able to recover specific files and folders with Active@ File Recovery.
